US-born panda who was repatriated to China appears in public

Xiao Qi Ji, a giant panda who was born in the United States (US) and returned to China last month, made his first public appearance on Tuesday (26/12) in Sichuan Province, China.

After more than a month of quarantine, examination and treatment from panda keepers, Xiao Qi Ji gradually adapted to his living environment at the Shenshuping giant panda breeding base in Wolong National Nature Reserve, Sichuan.

Born on August 21, 2020 in Washington DC, Xiao Qi Ji was returned to Sichuan on November 9 from the Smithsonian's National Zoo with her parents, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian.

Xiao Qi Ji attracts many tourists to the Shenshuping giant panda breeding base.

"This panda is very cute and has soft fur. I really like pandas, because every time I see them, I feel very happy and stress disappears," said Xia Feng, a panda fan.

Currently, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang have also been released from quarantine. In order to better care for these two old giant pandas, they are currently resting in a care pen at the Dujiangyan giant panda breeding base of the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center, which is not open to the public.

Mei Xiang and Tian Tian were brought to the US 23 years ago and gave birth to four cubs there, with Tai Shan, Bao Bao and Bei Bei having returned to China before Xiao Qi Ji.
